<aside> 👨‍🏫 The initial needs come from product team who want to build new feature that can combine flight with hotel purchase and enable trip approval process. As Product Design Lead, I work with team, defining the problems, executing flow and scenarios, and designing prototypes.

Problem

We identified our problem by investigating the causality, anxieties and motivations of what user do now. Then we put it in a narrative form that actionable for design and engineering team.

When employee booking a flight or hotel, especially for the ones that out of policy, Company wants to review it, so they can have control of their travel spends, enforcing travel policy and saving cost.

How people solve the problem now?

• We only show a warning message for out of policy trips upon checkout but we don't have any specific flow for asking company approvals. Employee can still book those trips without any kind of permission.
• We have my bookings page where employees can check their booking after purchased to see status (confirmed, pending, or failed).
• There is no page where we can see the progress of trip approval.

This project is quite unique and have a fair challenges. When we launched our product as MVP, we made both travel and expense experience as simple as possible. For travel, the primary goal was to be able to book quickly with less to no friction. Therefore we cut off any possible steps while retaining the clarity of the process.
